Combined Heat and Power (CHP), and other clean, alternative power
generation systems that are environmentally sound.
We must move away from dirty, wasteful and unsafe power generation
systems, such as Nuclear Power, and move towards making alternative
power the standard method in all countries around the world. The new
standard methods should include wind, solar, water and biogas/sewage
power generation systems as well as combined heat and power systems
(CHP). To get an overview of the workings and benefits of combined heat
and power plants, please watch the video below.
Moves are being made in several countries at this time (2007) to install
even more nuclear power plants, which is both short sighted and irresponsible.
Not only is nuclear power potentially very unsafe (has everyone forgotten
Chernobyl or Three Mile Island?), but it is also extremely expensive,
dirty (spent fissionable material is very hard to dispose of safely),
and extremely wasteful.
Did you know that the current power stations in the UK throw away two-thirds
of the energy they generate – they throw out enough "waste" heat from
cooling towers and such to keep every building in the UK warm, and to
provide the hot water too.
If we're to save the environment, and our whole way of
life, then we must invest in cleaner power! Please help to get the message
across to your government.
