UK Jedi Richard Strange explores Jediism and The Jedi Sanctuary congregation of the Universal Life Church (ULC file number 61842)

I've joined and been welcomed into The Jedi Sanctuary congregation, therefore I will be concentrating at least for a time upon this branch of Jediism.

As mentioned elsewhere The Jedi Sanctuary treats all congregation members as Jedi. There is no Master Padawan relationship, and at this time there is no Jedi Council, though this of course is open to change - see Amendments to the Constitution below in the Jedi Sanctuary constitution of The Jedi Sanctuary congregation of the Universal Life Church (UCL).

As I explore whether or not being a Jedi of The Jedi Sanctuary is suitable for me, or I for it, I will hope to make some friends, make a positive contribution, and learn. Stay tuned for more information, or come and join.

May the Force Be With You!

Jedi Sanctuary Constitution

(Updated on 07 June 2005)

DEFINITION - The Jedi Sanctuary (JS) is a non-profit organization composed of followers and admirers of the Jedi Movement. The Jedi philosophy, also known as Jediism, is one of the fastest growing spiritual phenomenon’s in the world. Jediism is a philosophy that was created by the ‘Star Wars’ hit series. George Lucas, the writer of ‘Star Wars’, used aspects of Taoism, Zen Buddhism, Christianity, Mysticism and martial arts like Aikido, Kendo, Iaito, Kung Fu, Tai Chi and the medieval Code of Chivalry, in order to create the ‘Jedi Knight’ and the philosophy of ‘the Force’.

The Jedi philosophy was born as the result of George Lucas’ distilling down spiritual beliefs from the above religions, and the Jedi teachings took on a life of its own. Like the experiment that escaped from the laboratory, Jediism escaped from the Star War’s series and has become a philosophy to tens of thousands of people. The JS embraces the Jedi philosophy and anyone from any religion or spiritual background can join.

MISSION STATEMENT - to offer a place for Jedi’s and admirers of Jediism to meet, socialize, learn from each other, and to just have fun. We lean towards devotion to the Force.

JEDI – Jedi, in our definition, are those who follow Jediism. Jedi are people who are trying to serve the Force and do the will of the Force in their daily lives. They try to contact the Force within themselves through meditation and by listening to that small inner voice, called intuition. They try to live in the present and not in the past or in the future. Jedi are a ‘feeling’ people. They recognize that all life is connected. They realize that we are all a part of each other and that the Force is the river that runs through us all. Jedi face their daily conflicts, struggles and trials with courage and bravery. They will stand their ground if they feel something is wrong. They are usually at peace with themselves, but if not, they will always strive to get that way. They are surrendered to the will of the Force, come what may.

ORGANIZATION – We are a loose organization of individuals who study and try to apply the principles of Jediism in our own lives. For this group, no one is a higher level of Jedi than anyone else. We are all on the same level. We call ourselves Jedi, in the liberal sense of the word, and we don’t use Jedi ranks at the JS. We also don’t have a Jedi High Council at the JS.

GUIDELINES – Be respectful of other members and visitors. If you disagree with another member, try to do so in a non-offending, tactful way. “The Force’ is used to address God or the Higher Power at the JS. The JS has zero tolerance for sexual harassment and sexual misconduct of any type. Any type of discrimination or harassment based on a person’s beliefs, creed, religion, race, color or sex will not be tolerated. The JS is an equal opportunity organization. Note: Children under 13 are not allowed to join this group without first obtaining a parent's or guardians verifiable permission.

AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION - Amendments to the Constitution may be proposed by any member.
