Please Help establish marine reserves in the Gulf

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

I’ve been involved with campaigns to establish marine reserves before around the world. It’s a shame that it needs doing, but that’s the world we live in today. The seas, lakes and rivers are so important to life on earth, and yet they get polluted in so many different ways - anyway -

I just sent a message through Greenpeace to Dr. Jane Lubchenco, the head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, asking her to protect the sperm whale and the entire Gulf ecosystem by establishing marine reserves in ecologically critical areas. We can’t afford another disaster like the one in the Gulf. Join me and take action here:

Greenpeace has sent a ship to the Gulf to do an independent assessment of the possible damage done to the sperm whale population. Hopefully, people like Dr. Lubchenco make sure the next disaster never happens.

Campaign to save Alaska’s Tongass National Forest

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

The future of America’s rainforest, the ancient Tongass National
Forest in Southeast Alaska, is at risk.

Congress is considering legislation that would transfer much of
the Tongass’ most biologically-rich lands, including vast swaths
of old-growth trees, to a for-profit corporation which would
then be free to log and develop it.

I just emailed my members of Congress to urge them to put a stop
to this. Will you join me? Just click the link below to send
your own letter.

http://www.ga3.org/campaign/savetongass_gg

One of the last remaining, largely intact temperate rainforests
in the world, the Tongass National Forest also serves as an
important buffer against climate change.

The forest provides rich conditions for larger wildlife and for
undergrowth and soils that teem with tiny life. Moss creeps into
every wooded crevice, while streams swell with salmon allowing
black and brown bears to thrive. Bald eagles, wolves, deer and
many other animals abound here as well.

Unfortunately, the Sealaska corporation has a history of
clearcutting its lands. Now it wants much of what remains of the
most ecologically-productive old growth forest in the Tongass
National Forest.

More than half of the largest trees have already been clearcut
and this bill could move at any time. There is literally no time
to waste in protecting what is left and charting a new course
for the Tongass.

Please act now to help protect the forest, along with the
communities and wildlife that depend on it:

Once you’ve sent your message to Congress, please help spread
the word about this - just forward this email to your friends
and family and ask them to join you.

Thanks for your help!

Sky News Leaders’ Debate Question from a Jedi

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

I’ve just submitted the following question to the Sky News Leaders’ TV Debate that is on tv later on tonight. Lol if my question gets selected I might be on tv later on.

“There are a few thousand large pipes around the coastline of the UK, which disgorge untreated sewage directly into river or sea whenever heavy rain affects the drainage and sewage systems. At the moment it’s either this or flood our streets with untreated sewage - not a pretty choice either way. Water sustains us, and it allows life. How can we keep on polluting on a world wide scale as we are. The green revolution should not only be about power. My question is which party will look at improving waste and effluence control in the UK, and abroad?”

Save Yellowstone’s Wolves - help stop the tide of destruction

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Yellowstone National Park’s famous Cottonwood Pack has just been destroyed — all the adult wolves have been killed and the surviving pups will likely die without their wolf family. These are just some of the latest victims of the federal government’s likely illegal decision to eliminate vital protections for our wolves in Greater Yellowstone and the northern Rockies.

The next few weeks will be crucial for the wolves in the Greater Yellowstone region. The future of wolves in the northern Rockies is at a crossroads — and it will take the voices of caring wildlife supporters like you and me to make a difference.

I just signed Defenders’ petition to Secretary Ken Salazar — and I hope you will, too. Please sign on today and help support a lasting future for wolves in America.

Please sign this petition to demand climate justice of our governments’ leaders’

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

I thought you might be interested in this petition that I’ve just signed. It’s calling on world leaders to make a just and responsible agreement to protect our climate when they meet at Copenhagen in December 2009. You have until the end of November to sign it, but if you do it now, it will be out of the way.

You can sign the petition by clicking here: Demand climate justice at the Copenhagen summit

Thank you!

Please sign this petition: Island states threatened by rising sea levels

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

For the first time in human history, the North Pole can be circumnavigated — the Arctic ice is melting quicker than many anticipated. The devastating effects of climate change are also accelerating sea level rise and small island nations are preparing evacuation plans to guarantee the survival of their populations.

In a week, these small islands are tabling a resolution calling on the UN Security Council to address climate change as a pressing threat to international peace and security.

But the island states’ campaign for survival is meeting fierce opposition, so they need our help. Sign the petition now at the page below — it will be presented by the islands’ ambassadors at the UN next week. The more signatures we raise, the more urgently this call will ring out to protect our common future:

Why not everywhere? 100% Clean energy in the US within 10 years!

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

The WE Campaign in the United States is pushing for clean energy across the US within 10 years, a campaign which seems to be endorsed by the promises of US Presidential candidate Barack Obama, and rooted in the real world.

They are saying that it is possible to convert the US to clean energy within 10 years, which is remarkable, but if so, why is this not possible over here in the UK, and indeed, in any country of the world?

Have a look at this short advert, which is being run in response to the US coal and oil industry’s massive spending on ad campaigns to shore up their dirty industry.

Please help make UK coal generated power cleaner

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Your local MP needs to vote for an amendment to the Energy Bill so that power stations meet new, world-leading carbon emissions standards. We also ask that a full public enquiry is held into the construction of the Kingsnorth power station in Kent to ensure that carbon capture and storage technology is proven to work on a commercial scale.

Help determine the future of UK energy policy by writing to your MP using the form on the page below to enter your details.
